Kate’s baby is due in July, which means we are planning a huge baby shower for her and you are all invited! We are predicting a girl with the names Alexandra and Diana somewhere in the long list of names that she will be given.

As well as celebrating with Afternoon Tea, we are encouraging all our guests to bring a bag of diapers to the party, (or anything else fit for a newborn). Feel free to bring diapers and gifts for baby boys AND girls. Rumor has it she is expecting twins!

A baby shower gift will ensure you can write in our special ‘baby advice’ book that will be mailed to the Palace as soon as the party is over.  Then, all the accumulated diapers and gifts will be re-gifted to the women’s shelters in the Phoenix area.

Drop off diapers or diaper cakes to be donated to local women’s shelters.
We also hope to build the largest collection of “diaper cakes” ever seen with all the donated diapers!

So, next time you are in the grocery store, grab a bag of baby goodies and come to the Tea Room to celebrate the impending arrival of our newest heir to the throne.

And if you can’t make the party, just drop off your diapers or gifts and sign the book of well wishes anyway. We want Kate to know just how many people are thinking about her and wishing her good luck from Arizona.

Voted Best Afternoon Tea – Phoenix Magazine Best of the Valley

A Note from Jo
The winds of change~

There’s never a dull moment around here. September seems to have been THE month for re-living the expression “out with the old in with the new.” And that couldn’t be more apparent than in the happenings going on next door to the Tea Room, in my old store formerly known as English Rose Accents.

Well the moment of unveiling has arrived!

Here is what you have all been so curious about. Doors open 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 1st. You wont need a Cockney accent to be called a Londoner, just drive up to Carefree and visit our newest addition to the English Rose Tea Room legacy, drum roll please…let me introduce to you my latest venture, jo london.

Now I can proudly say that not only do I own a Tea Room, I also own the best new Brit Shop in the Valley. I am soo excited about it. The new store feels like my house, only it is open to the public!

Here are a few tips needed for a remodel which you can make note of, in case you ever get the crazy urge to re-invent yourself too!

 INGREDIENTS FOR A NEW STORE

MOTIVATION
I miss England. The Tea Room provides a wonderful place for lunch and Afternoon Tea, but my ideal escape is to curl up on the settee, with my dogs, reading a good English home décor book in front of a cozy fire. (mmm, I know, a challenge when its 95 degrees outside) Well anyway, why not fill up a store with all the things I miss about my home country, and love to have in my own house? So I did. Yes, a British style store… in Arizona of all places.

MANPOWER

I needed – a stone mason, an electrician, a plumber, a painter, an AC expert, a roofer, a graphic designer, a carpenter, a window cleaner, an awning specialist, a flooring specialist, a great team of staff, a good friend…and, most important of all, a patient husband.

MERCHANDISE

British memorabilia, lots of vintage quirky collections, doggie stuff (Brits love dogs more than some people they know), old pine boxes, comfy couches, union jack flag pillows, handmade jewelry, ‘ made in England’ home décor, funny cards, potting shed finds and a big kitchen table brimming with seasonal goodies.

MARGARET

(Actually her name is Peg but I’m trying to keep the ‘M’ thing going on here). Peg has been an inspiration to me in the development of the store. She is now officially our Creative Director and has been invaluable to me and the business in getting the doors open. I don’t think there is a barcode she is not personally familiar with, or a British blog site she hasn’t read. As we’d say in London, “she’s a diamond geezer.”

So, if this has whetted your appetite, please stop in and say hi on October 1st, when we will show you what we have been hiding for the last four weeks.

Cheers and Cheerio!

Merchandise you can expect to see in the new “jo london” store…

Quirky one of a kind signs

Prices start at $45.00

Lots of doggie memorabilia, prices start at around $10.00 Unfortunately no adorable puppies for sale…yet!

British flag inspired merchandise. Pricing varies (depending on how much time it took to paint!)

We will have lots more photos to show of the new store next month, right now we want to just give you a flavor of what to expect.

Tea Room tidbits…

Talking of flavors, with the Fall around the corner the Tea Room is serving up some yummy desserts and teas.

Come in for a spot of Cranberry Autumn tea served with some Cherry Pie & Ice Cream.  Or better yet, how about a bowl of butternut squash & nutmeg soup, served with one of our delicious homemade potato rolls...hungry?

Changing faces at the Tea Room…

We say goodbye to Natasha who has been with us for almost 9 years. Here she is (on the right) pictured with one of our favorite customers. Natasha has moved to sunny California to walk along the beaches and spend more time with her daughter. We know you will miss her as much as we do and we wish her much success in her new life.

New faces

Although we say goodbye to Natasha, we say hello to Jane, a long time customer of the Tea Room and originally from England, who will be here to help you. We are so glad she decided to join us. Jane has one of those ‘funny’ accents…so she fits right in.

We also welcome Kacie to the Tea Room, a student at ASU who has joined us as our Girl Friday. Kacie will be helping us all to provide that excellence in customer service that you all expect.

And a huge “welcome back” to Kira! Kira returns to the Tea Room after a hiatus of a couple of years when she moved off to sunny Florida. It’s so exciting to have her back as part of the gang, and her mommy (our Tea Room Manager Hilary) is very delighted to say the least.

And finally Deborah who has been working hard in our kitchen is off to England…to live! We are all jealous of course but wish her lots of happiness in her new life in old Blighty.

WE ARE LOOKING
FOR A KITCHEN ASSISTANT

As we start to gear up for the fall/winter season, the English Rose Tea Room is looking for additional help. We would love to meet someone who could assist our servers in creating the environment and atmosphere our customers love.

Do you know anyone who would like to work Monday to Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., helping to keep our kitchen clean, assisting with side work and helping our busy kitchen crew?

We are also looking for a kitchen assistant who would be available Monday to Friday 9:30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

No experience is necessary, just a love of tea and the Tea Room!

The Small Works Show & Sale features perfectly petite works of art at the English Rose Tea Room . These original works, framed or gallery wrapped canvases, are no larger than 100 square inches.

The opening reception for the Small Works Show & Sale will be held on Sunday, October 28 from 3 – 6 PM and the Tea Room will offer tea & scones for $10. The Show will be up through December 31, 2012.

The League’s signature Mini-Masterpieces are available year round at the adjacent Jo London store. The 2″ x 2″ signed original works of art created by Sonoran Arts League members are available in a variety of mediums – oil, acrylic, mixed media, glass, metal and more. Priced at $20 each, they make wonderful gifts – on their own or as a creative touch tied to a wrapped present. Each comes with a mini-easel and/or magnet. Mini-Masterpieces are a unique addition to your personal collection or a delightful beginning of assembled works.

The Sonoran Arts League is committed to advancing art, artists and art education, with a special focus on youth – encouraging creativity and innovation in those who will lead our future.  The Tea Room is a proud supporter of the Arts in our community.
