I’m off across the pond…

Queen Elizabeth II is celebrating her 90th birthday this year.  She is lucky enough to always have two birthdays, her actual birthday on April 21st and then her ‘official’ birthday which this year will be celebrated on Saturday June 11th (because the weather is better, seriously).

Things happening in London over Her Majesty’s birthday weekend:

June 10: Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.

A weekend of events to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and, unofficially, the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday, will start on June 10 with a Service of Thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral. The congregation will be made up of invited guests only, but the service will be televised. June 10 is also the Duke of Edinburgh’s 95th birthday, (but he has specified that he does not want any public celebration of the date).

June 11: Trooping the Colour

Saturday, June 11 is the date of this year’s Trooping the Colour, the official annual celebration of the Queen’s birthday. Otherwise known as The Queen’s Birthday Parade, it is a chance for the Queen to inspect soldiers from the Household Division. It takes place on Horse Guards Parade behind Whitehall, and is televised live by the BBC from 10am.

The Queen and other members of the Royal family travel to and from Buckingham Palace in carriages, meaning there is ample opportunity to see her for anyone standing on The Mall. She will then appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace at 1pm to watch a fly-past. This will be the only “balcony moment” of the birthday celebrations and is another good chance for members of the public to see the Queen, albeit from a distance.

And I will be there, complete with hat and husband.  I will post pictures to our Facebook page so watch for the English Rose Tea Room exclusive!

God Save the Queen, and Happy Birthday Ma’am.

Summer Happenings at the English Rose Tea Room http://carefreetea.com/summer-happenings-at-the-english-rose-tea-room/ Fri, 03 Jun 2016 16:41:33 +0000 http://carefreetea.com/?p=6073

Over the past few months we’ve been busy serving literally thousands as they too discover the “utterly civilized pleasure of taking time for tea”.  We’ve appeared on several TV shows, had some fabulous events; from Horse Rescue Fund Raisers during the Kentucky Derby, to an Alice in Wonderland Tea Party for our local theater and a ‘splendiforous’ Downton Abbey bash.

A busy season with lots of new faces and some wonderful re-connections with old friends. I am so lucky to be able to enjoy tea every day and the English Rose Tea Room is the best place in Arizona to do just that.

The Tea Room was recently featured on Channel 12 News “AZ Midday”, featuring Yours Truly and the new Jane Austen movie premiere of “Love & Friendship”. Thank you to Priscilla for lending me the fab outfit and thank you to Alison Frost and all the team at Channel 12.

We are open ALL SUMMER everyday from 11:00am to 4:00pm, with our last seating for tea at 3:00pm.  Call us now to make a reservation and we look forward to welcoming you at the English Rose Tea Room.

Goodbye to Jane http://carefreetea.com/goodbye-to-jane/ Wed, 01 Jun 2016 16:43:16 +0000 http://carefreetea.com/?p=6076 goodbye to jane

Goodbye to Jane

Exciting times ahead for our lovely English Jane as she embarks on her new career as “Official Nana In Charge” of her beautiful little granddaughters Alice and Lucy.

After 4 years at the Tea Room serving our customers, “smiling with teeth” and explaining that I come from the ‘posh’ part of England and she doesn’t (those  were my words) its time to wave Jane off as she flies to Chicago for a year with her family and then eventually back to  England (the non-posh part).

Thank you Jane for all your support and hard work, for the marmalade (thank you hubby George), the Alice-isms and the many laughs, most of them at your expense.

We will miss you very much.

OUR 14TH ANNIVERSARY MARCH 1ST, 2016! http://carefreetea.com/our-14th-anniversary-march-1st-2016/ Sun, 21 Feb 2016 18:34:23 +0000 http://carefreetea.com/?p=6029 cft early

It’s hard to believe that the picture above, is the same place today.   14 years ago, on March 1st 2002, the English Rose Tea Room began its adventure as the first Tea Room in Carefree, Arizona.  Who would have thought that a little bit of Brit could survive in the heat of the Arizona desert…after all only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun…most people gave us 6 months.

Well, as we now know, that was then…and this is now!  Happy Anniversary my beautiful English Rose Tea Room. Here are a few of the people who have served you over the years…

“Happy New Year” to all my lovely Tea Room readers. We are currently mailing this newsletter to over 2,500 tea enthusiasts!

Read the full events page here

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and perhaps, like me, you are now looking at that space where the Christmas tree once was and wondering, mmm… what to buy to fill in the gap?

Isn’t it strange how empty the house looks after everything is put away? Amazing too, just how many weeks after Christmas, “glitter” will still stick to the carpet, the furniture, the TV screen, the dog bed…

I don’t make New Year resolutions. Like most people, I forget immediately what they were, however, I am happy to say I have accomplished a few “New Year” chores:

1. The Tea Room received a well needed “New Year Dusting”, and all the displays are fresh and exciting…we fed well over 1,500 people during the holiday season and as well as a pretty exhausted staff, our poor little Tea Room was looking a bit tired too…but not anymore! Stop by and check out how pretty it all looks.

 2. I finally went through my closet and donated a whole truck load of clothing to good causes…WHY OH WHY DO I BUY SO MANY SHOES??

3. I cleaned out the fridge at home from the detritus of too many leftovers.  I don’t think I will ever eat ham again.

4. I tried to start exercising, start dieting and stop drinking wine all in the same day…that lasted 24hrs.

And so now, to planning the New Year at the Tea Room, something I have waaay more success with.  Onwards and upwards as we anticipate Spring, my most favorite season in the desert and we have some really exciting events planned for the Tea Room this season.

Make sure you take note of the very special BABY SHOWER we are hosting at the end of March…hint, if you are a “Royal Fan” you had better mark your calendar!

And then there is Valentiney’s Day (as our long-serving staff member Bevy calls it), Kentucky Derby Day, Mother’s Day and lots of festivals happening during the Spring in the Town of Carefree, but really…do you need an excuse to come in for tea?  No, I didn’t think so.

See you for a cuppa!

Lots of love,
